On my Discord server, I have been running a text based game called Heroes of the Verminguard, This is the story of four heroes from four different nations coming together to protect their homes from monstrous and bestial threats.
This post is about one of the heroes: Davin Kornelius II. Davin is a Changeling Archaeologist who is studying the gods of the world and whether they are still interacting with the people of the world today.
Davin's story starts at a dig site in the desert nation of Equidos. He had just found a plaque revealing part of the name of the creator God when he heard a cry for help. A portly prairie dog was being attacked by large scorpions. Davin made short work of the creatures only to learn that he could hear and understand the prairie dog, who was called Porkbelly. Porkbelly was sent by the Ratcatcher, Grandmaster of the Verminguard guild, to find the chosen hero from Equidos. That hero is Davin!
In order to fulfill his obligation as a hero of the Verminguard, Davin and Porkbelly had to travel overland from the dig site to Ursinholde, the capitol of Urslanta. Davin was able to secure a position as a guardsman with a caravan delivering Equidos Ale to Ursinholde, thanks to the centaur cousins, Bo and Luc Hazard. On the way, he encounters LeGrande Goldsmith, Speaker of the Conglomerate of Vox, and the most interesting Centaur in the world.
After several days of bad weather and battle, Davin encounters the patron goddess of Equidos, Equis, and receives a boon from her before continuing on to Ursinholde. Upon arrival in Ursinholde, Davin is met by a Stout Halfling, Sir Thamkis Whispermouse, envoy to King Uruz, Fifth of the Name, who sets Davin up in a special room at the Verminguard headquarters, the Roost.
While waiting for the other heroes to arrive, Davin is given a tour of the city by a member of the city watch, an Elven woman by the name of Naivara Siannodel. He goes to the library, where he researches the gods and finds a written history of creation. He also visits a local blacksmith shop where he orders a custom made collapsible shield/bracelet. That evening, he has a nightmare regarding the return of the god of darkness and destruction: Karakos!
