Hey all, it's been a while since I reviewed anything. I got sort of hung up on a couple of different podcasts that I couldn't just listen to just a bit of. (Reviews for some of these are coming soon!) But, I found this one podcast that is recorded one town over from where I live, so I had to give it a listen! That podcast is Fantasy Pants!
Fantasy Pants is a Dungeons & Dragons actual play podcast currently running Journey Through The Radiant Citadel with some homebrew additions and deviations. The story revolves around Jules LaRoche, a College of Creation Bard, who is also a renegade prince of a fallen world. Early on, you find that Jules, like Robin Hood, has a merry band of orphans, the Cherry Delights, who help him in aiding the people of the Low City in the city of Cerule on the homebrew world of Tythos. When a strange storm decimates the city and the world, Jules and many residents of Cerule are brought to the Radiant Citadel via the Concord Sapphire, which was destroyed after their arrival, heralding the destruction of Tythos.
Upon arriving on the Citadel, Jules meets and befriends a young half dragon by the name of Zebulon Brass. Zeb, whose brother is a Shield Bearer for the Citadel, only wants to be a Luminary, a celebrity adventurer whose exploits get broadcast to the Concord Worlds via the Crystal Network. Zeb's guest to become a Luminary, and Jules quest to help his people is only where this story begins.
This podcast uses the sidekick mechanic as there are only two Player Characters, although, as time goes on, secondary PCs are made. The music, the action, and the humor really stuck with me, especially since the humor is very relateable. Davis Monroe, the dungeon master, is a talented storyteller with many varying voices, and is worth his weight in buttons (a game mechanic that allows the players advantage if they are spent). Jules is played by Jeremy Wolf, who also produces the show and seems to be an amazing Bard himself with the fabulous musical creations he has gifted the show with. Zebulon is played by Stephen Rodriguez, who brings childlike enthusiasm to the podcast with his amazing voice for Zeb (Just wait until he tells the story of how he came up with the name).
All in all, Fantasy Pants is an amazing show with an amazing cast. If enjoy light toilet humor, horses on natural ones, and dice blessed with actual holy water, give them a listen on your podcatcher of choice. You can also find them on most social media.
